Advanced Holographic Security Solutions
By Rajneesh Sharma, Owner, Kiran Holographics
No single feature can stop every counterfeiter. Strong protection comes from layers: something everyone can check, something only trained staff can check, and something that can be verified against a record. Advanced holographic security solutions combine these layers in one label or pack. This article explains the three levels and how to choose the right mix for your product.
Level 1: features anyone can check
These are the visible features of a hologram: the brand image, colour changes, movement and depth when the hologram is tilted. They help a buyer, shopkeeper or official spot a fake in seconds. Dual colour holograms, kinetic effects and lens effects make this level stronger, and tamper-evident materials show if a label has been moved.
Level 2: features for trained checkers
Some features are meant for inspectors, distributors or the brand's own team. Examples include micro-text that needs a magnifier, hidden images seen with a laser pen, UV ink visible under ultraviolet light and thermochromic ink that changes colour with heat. Because the public does not know they exist, counterfeiters often miss them.
Level 3: features checked against a record
Serial numbers, barcodes and QR codes give each hologram a unique identity. When combined with a database, they allow track and trace: a brand can see where a product was sold, and a buyer can confirm that a code is genuine and has not been used before. This level turns a hologram from a visual check into a data-backed system.
Choosing the right level of protection
- Everyday consumer products: a custom hologram with tamper evidence usually gives good value.
- Pharma, agrochemicals and electronics: add serial numbers or QR codes for tracking.
- Documents and high-value goods: combine high-security origination, hidden features and numbering.
Cost rises with each layer, so match the protection to the value of the product and the threat it faces.
Building it into your packaging
Security works best when it is designed with the pack, not added at the end. Decide early where the hologram sits, how it will be applied (by hand, by applicator or as hot stamping foil) and how staff will check it. We also supply hologram applicators and machines for brands applying labels in-house.
FAQ
Can one label carry all three levels?
Yes. A single hologram label can combine a visible design, hidden features and a unique QR code.
What is track and trace?
It means each label has a unique code recorded in a database, so its journey and authenticity can be checked.
Do I need a custom design?
For real protection, yes. Stock designs can be bought by anyone.
