Importing Hologram Machines from India: A Buyer’s Guide

By Rajneesh Sharma, Owner, Kiran Holographics

Hologram makers around the world buy their machines from India. The reasons are simple: India has a mature hologram industry, experienced machine builders, and competitive costs. But buying a production line from another country is a big decision. The machine is only part of it. You also need installation, training, spare parts and a supplier who answers when you need help.

This guide explains what to check before you import hologram machines from India, so your plant starts smoothly.

Step 1: Be clear about what you want to make

Before you talk to suppliers, decide your main products: hologram labels, hot stamping foil, security holograms or wide web film. Your products decide your machines, and a good supplier will ask about them first. If you are new to the industry, read our guide on how to start a hologram manufacturing business.

Step 2: Check the supplier's experience

Look for a supplier who has been in the hologram industry for many years and actually uses holograms in production, not just one who builds machines. Ask:

Step 3: Ask for a complete line, not single machines

Buying machines from different suppliers often causes problems. Widths do not match, speeds do not balance, and when something goes wrong, nobody takes responsibility. A complete line from one supplier, from master making to finishing, is easier to set up and support. See what a turnkey hologram plant includes.

Step 4: Plan your master supply

Your machines need master plates and nickel shims to produce anything. Many countries have no local origination lab. Ask your supplier whether they can supply masters and shims to you after installation. This keeps your production running without depending on a lab you have never worked with. Learn more in our hologram master plate guide.

Step 5: Confirm installation and training

A machine that arrives without proper installation can take months to run well. Before you order, confirm:

  1. Who will install the machines at your site.
  2. How long training will last, and for how many operators.
  3. What support is available after the engineers leave.
  4. How quickly spare parts can be shipped to your country.

Step 6: Understand shipping and documents

Machines are usually shipped by sea in containers. Agree clearly with your supplier on who pays for which part of the shipping, and which port the machines will ship to. Make sure you receive a commercial invoice, packing list and shipping documents, as your customs agent will need them. A local customs agent in your country can tell you about import duties and clearance.

Step 7: Prepare your site before the machines arrive

Get your production room ready in advance: clean, dust-controlled space, stable power supply and enough room for each machine. Ask your supplier for a layout and power requirements early, so installation can start as soon as the machines land.
