Hologram Labels for Batteries and Tyres: Stop Fakes and Warranty Fraud
By Rajneesh Sharma, Owner, Kiran Holographics
Batteries for vehicles and inverters, and tyres for cars, bikes and trucks, are expensive and bought on trust. Copies and old stock relabelled as new are sold through small dealers, and they fail early or put drivers at risk. Brands also face warranty fraud, where claims are made on products that are not genuine or not sold through an authorised dealer.
A hologram label helps buyers, dealers and service teams check whether a product is genuine.
Where to place holograms
- Battery top or side label: a custom hologram near the brand name.
- Warranty card: a hologram so the card cannot be copied. A numbered sticker can link the card to the product.
- Tyre label or wrapper: rubber is hard for adhesive to grip, so many brands place the hologram on the tread label, wrapper or packaging instead.
- Cartons and boxes: a tamper evident seal across the opening.
How holograms reduce warranty fraud
- Service centres check the hologram before accepting a claim.
- Numbered labels show whether the product was sold through your dealer network.
- A missing or damaged hologram is a clear warning sign.
A simple check for dealers and service centres
- Look: tilt the label. A genuine hologram shows movement and depth; a printed copy looks flat.
- Touch: check that the label is not lifted, cut or stuck back. A tamper-evident label shows a clear mark if someone tried to remove it.
- Match: compare the number on the label with the number on the warranty card or invoice.
- Record: note the number in the claim, so repeated numbers show up quickly.
Keep the check short. If it takes more than a few seconds, busy counters will skip it.
Choosing the security level
Most battery and tyre brands start with an overt hologram that anyone can check by eye, plus serial numbers. Brands with a large fake problem add a hidden feature that only their team can check. The levels are explained in how to check a hologram: overt, covert and forensic features.
What these labels must survive
- Heat, dust and rough handling in workshops and godowns
- Oil and grease on hands and surfaces
- Long storage at dealers
Tell your supplier the surface and conditions. See hologram sticker not sticking.
Tips for brands
- Use a custom hologram, not a stock design. See custom hologram sticker design.
- Train dealers and mechanics to check it.
- Show the genuine hologram in ads, catalogues and your website.
- Record number ranges by dealer or region.
What to tell your hologram supplier
- The product and the surface: battery casing, tread label, wrapper or carton
- Label size and quantity per month
- Whether you need serial numbers, and if they must match a warranty card
- Hand application or machine application on your line
FAQ
Can a hologram be stuck directly on a tyre?
Rubber is hard for most adhesives, so brands usually put the hologram on the tread label, the wrapper or the packaging. Share the exact surface with your supplier before ordering.
How does a hologram help with warranty claims?
The service centre checks that the hologram is genuine and that its number matches the warranty card. Claims on copies, or on products sold outside your dealer network, are easier to spot.
