Hologram Stickers on Rolls vs Sheets: Which Format Should You Order?
By Rajneesh Sharma, Owner, Kiran Holographics
When you order hologram stickers, one of the first questions is the format: sheets or rolls. The artwork, the security features and the quality of the hologram can be the same either way. What changes is how the stickers reach your product, and that decides how much labour, wastage and time you spend. This guide helps you pick the right format before you place an order.
What each format means
Sheets are flat pages with the stickers laid out on a backing. You peel each sticker off by hand and place it on the product. Rolls (also called spools) carry the stickers in a continuous strip wound on a core, ready to feed into an automatic applicator machine.
| Sheets | Rolls (spools) | |
|---|---|---|
| How stickers are applied | By hand | By an automatic applicator machine |
| Best for | Lower volumes, mixed products, certificates and documents | High-volume packing lines, bottles, cartons, pouches |
| Extra equipment needed | None | An applicator machine |
| Labour | More | Less once the machine is running |
When sheets are the better choice
- You apply by hand today. A small packing team that seals a few hundred or a few thousand units does not need a machine.
- You stick on documents. Certificates, mark sheets and ID cards are usually stamped one at a time, so sheets are easier to handle. See our guide on hologram stickers for certificates.
- You are testing a design. Sheets suit a first trial with a new product or a new market before you commit to machine-ready supply.
Our standard order for sheets is easy to plan: the minimum for standard 2-layer and 3-layer stickers is 1,000 sheets of 150 × 150 mm, and 500 sheets for stickers with serial numbers or names.
When rolls are the better choice
- You run a packing line. If bottles, cartons or pouches move past a labelling station, an applicator places each sticker at the same spot, every time.
- Volume is steady. Once you stick thousands of units a day, hand application becomes slow and uneven, and rolls pay back through less labour.
- Placement matters. A machine puts the hologram in the same position on every pack, which makes a tamper-evident seal look consistent across the batch.
If you do not yet own a machine, read our guide to the hologram label applicator machine before you decide. We make applicators in Jaipur, so you can plan the stickers and the machine together.
Questions to answer before you order
- Will the stickers go on by hand or by machine?
- If by machine, which applicator do you use, and what roll width and core does it need?
- How many units do you stick in a day, and how many people are on the job?
- Do the stickers need serial numbers, names or QR codes for tracking?
- What material is the surface: paper, plastic, glass or metal?
Send these answers with your artwork and we will confirm the right format. Custom stickers can be supplied in sheets for hand application or in roll form for automatic applicators, and samples are available before a bulk order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I switch from sheets to rolls later?
Yes. The design does not change. When you buy an applicator machine, tell us its requirements and we supply the same design in roll form.
Are rolls more secure than sheets?
No. Security comes from the hologram itself and its features, such as serial numbers, void effects or covert elements. Format only affects application.
Can sheets and rolls carry serial numbers?
Yes. Serial numbers and names can be added in either format. Tell us the numbering you need when you request a quote.
Do you export both formats?
Yes. Sheets and rolls ship by air, sea or courier with an invoice and packing list. See our hologram manufacturer and exporter page for countries we serve.
